„Better safe than sorry” - Engineering Initiative: PIPE ROOF GROUTING SYSTEM OCTOPUS.

In case of granular soil tunnels are built using various construction tools, depending on the given geologic
|
conditions. Tools comprise pipe- and jetting roofs, injections, drawndowns and others.
|
|
|
|
|
If tunnelling is executed by the use
of a pipe roof, pipes of up to 20 meters length are em- bossed into the soil and
then secured from collapse by the use of shotcrete and steel archs.
For the pressing operation with shotcrete, high pressure pumps are used. The
required pressure of 10 to 30 bar is established through piston pumps or eccentric
screw pumps. The PIPE ROOF GROUTING SYSTEM OCTOPUS was developed by
SEIBOLD-Messtechnik as a

control system for fully automated control of pumps
used for grouting under pressure of pipe roofs. Additionally, the system allows
for complex analysis of all data gathered during operation.
The system was utilised by the use of Häny-, Obermann- und MAI-Pumpen*
successfully. The drill hole- injection- measurement- and registrationsystem
SEIBOLD® OCTOPUS was developed for tunnelling projects specifically.
The system provides registration of all data fully automated, that are gathered
during the process of injection. The injection-screen allows for assigning
drill holes and pumps. It starts pumps and switches them off, as soon as any
criteria of interruption is identified.

Measurement values for injection pressure, current rate of flow and total
quantity of concrete are being recorded depending on time, injection and drill
hole and can be evaluated at any time. The recorded information is stored on
an industrial hard disc and additionally on a second device (PCMCIA-card or
USB) for easy transfer.
The graphical user interface of the software for
analysis in combination with the 15" touch screen provide best ease of use.
All operating data of injection processes are visualised as a diagramm on the
fly. Documentation is provided for each drill hole as well as in total for the
pipe roof.
